I think that the issue with the difference in the comments is reflective of the difference between Ummah Films and Dawahworks.
Ummah Films clearly states that they are doing 'halal' entertainment. So therefore, their number one priority is to entertain. Not to give dawah or nasihah. If dawah or nasihah comes out of it, then alhamdulillah.
Because of this, you get the groupie type of comments, and even though many people seemed to benefit from the Reminder videos, when you read actually read the comments you see how sad of a shape the Ummah is in.
I don't mean to sound offensive, but when people vote to have a video about boyfriends and girlfriends over having a video about Tawheed, well then that says it all. Or when people leave comments like "Oh Ali the Ummah needs you"- uh... no, the Ummah needs the likes of the major scholars of the sunnah.
But this all goes to the fact that the Ummah is so watered down these days that we just want to be entertained, and would rather get our Islam from a video that is entertaining, then reading a book or listening to/attending a lecture.
Here is a reminder for you all:
The Prophet, saws, said: "The nations summon each other upon you as you call guests to eat from a plate of food". They (his companions) said , "Will we be few in number on that day O Messenger of Allaah?" He said, "no rather you will be many on that day, but you will be like the foam on the ocean. And Allaah will remove the fear in the hearts of your enemies and place in your hearts al-wahn". They said, "What is al-wahn O Messenger of Allaah?" He said, "love of this world and hatred of death."
And look at the Muslims today. We are like the foam on the ocean.
Well said fred or whoever you are anonymous. We are weak, it's as if we are running from our identity as muslims. Just having a arab name just don't do it. We need to try understanding ibada, tawheed, taqwa, and iman; various aspects of the aqeedah.
If we tried to understand aqeedah it would make us that much more sound in what we belive. Whats the purpose of knowing many surah of quran if you can't apply it to daily life. When islam is not practical it's hard to live with for some. It starts to honestly be a burdon to some. This is because the why in ones mind is never addressed or one isn't asked do they understand. Just because their name is ahmed we just assume they know what they are doing. That is why it is such a shock when we see a wayward muslim. Well, now days it isn't so much of a shock.
Dawah my friend Mahdi is not just simple reminders. Some people don't remember what you said anyway. They just remember how you said it. Don't know what they were talking about but, it sure was funny! Things can be funny but, for it to be dawah it must be thought provoking. The dawah attempts to elivate ones thinking to enlightened thought. Don't just assume muslims understand or even care. This is the simple mind when you address the first layer. To every action is a reaction. We want to address the cause of the bad action to create a good action.
